The majority of human trafficking victims are involved in forced labor. Labor trafficking involves coercion, or force in order to get a victim to cooperate. Two-thirds of trafficking victims fall into this category, including more than 10 million adults and nearly 4 million children.
There are 1,091,000 people living in conditions of modern-day slavery in the United States. Over 300,000 American children are considered at risk for sexual exploitation. It’s also estimated that 199,000 incidents occur within the U.S. each year.
Over the past decade, Florida has risen from the 9th largest consumer of human trafficking to the 3rd largest, following Texas and California who ranks the highest.
